PUPILS at William Cobbett Junior School got into the Paralympic spirit last week by taking part in a 'blind' football match.

The special game, in which the players were blindfolded, was organised by the Sainsbury's Young Person's Forum to promote sponsorship of this summer's Paralympic Games.

Blind football will take centre stage at this year's Paralympics, featuring five-a-side teams of visually impaired athletes using a ball with a noise-making device inside.

Rosie Allan, the young person's representative for Sainsbury's Farnham, said: "Sainsbury's is trying to introduce young people to the Paralympic Games by demonstrating difficulties arising for aspiring sporting stars, and help them to appreciate the amazing things these athletes are able to do."

Rosie added the match, which took place last Friday, was beneficial and enjoyable for everyone involved, and gave the children a great opportunity to learn more about the Paralympic Games and to participate in an Paralympic sport.

She said the match was so successful that there are talks of holding another one, with other local schools also wanting to get involved.
