At about 12.30pm on Tuesday (October 14), bailiffs posted enforcement notices from Dawkins High Court and Civil Enforcement Agents on the door, stating the premises had been “re-entered and recovered” on behalf of the landlords.
The independent fashion store opened its doors in June 2024.
Lola Jones is the second shop to close in the Yard in recent weeks, after the Hair Evo salon was shut down in late August.
A nearby business owner, who asked not to be named, feared more closures could follow after a downturn in trade caused by the ongoing infrastructure work.
“We have a WhatsApp group for the businesses around here and we estimate trade is down about 40 percent since the roadworks started,” he said.
“It’s really hard for us at the moment. We’re all just hoping the roadworks will be finished by Christmas so we can recover some trade.”
When work on Downing Street finishes, roadworks will shift to South Street and Union Road, where pavement and resurfacing are planned for November and December.
