IT'S all systems go for a skatepark in Jubilee Park after the town council agreed to go out to tender for the facility.

In a closed session of the finance and policy committee, phase one and phase two designs were shown to the committee by councillor Ian Dowdle.

The committee agreed to ask East Hampshire District Council to release money from developers' contributions to help pay for the skatepark.

Finance and policy committee chairman Don Mayes said the next step the council had to take was to decide how it should be built.

He said the committee would assess each tender for both phases, because the skatepark could be built in separate phases or in one go, depending on the cost.

Designs had been drawn up in consultation with the youngsters of the town, who had carried out their own survey to show what they wanted to see built in Jubilee Park.

It was anticipated by Mr Dowdle that the skatepark would be about 30 metres by 20 metres - or about the size of a single tennis court.

Although it is proposed for Jubilee Park, Mr Dowdle said there would still be room for other people to use the park as well.

Speaking to The Herald, he said: "I would advise people who are in favour of the skatepark to write in to the council and I would advise those who don't want it to do the same."

Mr Dowdle said it was important people that people should give their opinions before the facility was given the final go-ahead.
