CONSUMERS are being urged to show their support for British farmers and UK food by sharing pictures of their meals on social media as part of the ‘24 Hours in Farming’ initiative.
Today, the agricultural sector is taking to social media to showcase the work it does to feed our nation. British farmers are custodians of threequarters of the British countryside and, with growers, supply 61 per cent of the nation’s food to some of the highest health and welfare standards in the world.
The food and farming sector is worth £112bn, providing 3.8 million jobs in the UK.
Run by agricultural newspaper Farmers Guardian, 24 Hours in Farming is the farming industry’s biggest online event. For one day each year British farmers, growers and farming businesses use social media platforms to share posts, photos and videos about the work they do, using the hashtag #Farm24. The aim is to demonstrate to consumers just how much passion and commitment goes into producing the food we all eat and maintaining the great British countryside.
The event, which ends at 5am tomorrow (Friday) has built up a huge following, last year achieving a Twitter reach of more than 100 million, trending in the top five all day and attracting a number of high-profile supporters. This year promises to be even bigger.
now farmers are urging the public to get involved by sharing pictures of the meals they are eating on the day which British farmers produce. Anyone can take part by posting throughout the day on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and SnapChat accounts, using the hashtag #Farm24.
