SOUTH Farnham school is superb - and that's official.

The junior school has received the highest accolade from Ofsted inspector Lorna Brackstone, who felt moved to go further than the conventional Ofsted superlative of 'excellent' after her recent inspection.

And, in her report, Mrs Brackstone takes the almost unheard of step of saying the school has no areas that require improvement.

Even excellent schools usually have some room for improvement in Ofsted reports.

In a summary of her report on the community school, which she visited on March 31 and April 1, Mrs Brackstone describes overall standards as "exceptional".

"This is a superb school where pupils achieve very well and attain excellent standards," she writes.

"This is a result of outstanding leadership and management and very good quality teaching and learning."

Mrs Brackstone praised the leadership and management of headteacher Andrew Carter, senior staff and governors as "excellent", a word she also uses to describe provision for pupils' personal development.

"Consequently, pupils have exceptional attitudes to work and behaviour is outstanding."

The inspector describes the curriculum as "extraordinarily rich" and "excellently designed" and the quality of the teaching is "very good throughout".

She praises teachers of the 489 pupils as "outstanding professionals" and "excellent role models".

She also reports that the school's provision for special needs pupils, as well as those more able, is "very good" and that the school works very closely with parents.

The inspector found care and welfare of the pupils is of a very high quality and the pupils' attitudes in class and around school are excellent, with pupils behaviour described as outstanding.

"Pupils are extremely proud of their school and want to do their very best. The school is held in high esteem by parents and supported very well," she wrote.

Headteacher Andrew Carter said: "This represents the extraordinary level of hard work and commitment by all involved in the life of the school. Everybody should be justifiably proud of this outstanding report."
