FOOTBALL - Farnham Town's run of five successive wins in the Courage Combined Counties League came to an end, but they were happy to get a draw after going two goals down against Walton Casuals. Paul Warner completed the comeback with a spectacular free-kick goal in injury time.

New striker Grant Payne scored his ninth goal in five matches as Aldershot gained a valuable win at Harrow Borough in the Ryman Premier Division. Two days later, Aldershot lifted their first trophy of the season when they beat Conference side Sutton United 2-1 in the Isthmian League Charity Shield. Sutton were Ryman League champions last season and Aldershot won the Ryman League Cup.

Alton Town ended their dismal run of results with two Hampshire Premier League wins in four days. They beat Hythe & Dibden 2-1 and followed up on Tuesday night by defeating Lymington 6-4 in an action-packed match. Carlton Byrne scored twice and led the visitors a merry dance with his pace.

Town rivals Hammer United and Haslemere clashed in the Surrey Intermediate League Premier Div. II, and it was Hammer who ran out convincing 4-1 winners, thanks to a hat-trick from skipper Jeff Cox.

HOCKEY - Haslemere continue to struggle in the Hants/Surrey Regional League. Their good attacking play counted for nothing as they lost 2-1 to Southampton side Trojans. In the Hampshire Women's League, Gregarians trounced Basingstoke II 4-1, with Catriona Leather scoring twice. Skipper Di Taylor grabbed the winner for Aldershot & Farnham Ladies who beat Southampton University 2-1.

ATHLETICS – Aldershot, Farnham & District AC had another excellent day in the Hampshire Cross-Country League, the U/13 girls' team leading the way with a one-two-three finish at Basingstoke. Haslemere Border finished a respectable fifth in their Surrey League meeting.

SWIMMING – Some of the best young swimmers in the country were in action at Herons Leisure Centre when Haslemere, for the first time, staged a designated meet. Host club members Chloe Winter, Helen Meckiffe and Robert Dale were amongst the swimmers who gained qualifying times for next summer's National Age Group Championships.

CRICKET – Hambledon Cricket Club, the cradle of the modern game, have given details of their 250th anniversary celebrations in the year 2000. The first ball of the new millenium will be bowled at Broadhalfpenny Down a few seconds after midnight on January 1.
