FOOTBALL - The Easter Monday local derby between Farnborough and Aldershot turned out to be a damp squib, with the Hampshire rivals taking a point apiece from a goalless draw. Only 1,524 spectators watched the first league meeting of the sides at Cherrywood Road.
Farnham Town failed to halt their alarming slump in the Courage Combined Counties League. They fought gamely before losing by a single goal at leaders Ashford on Saturday, but succumbed meekly, 2-1, to visitors Cove on Monday. Farnham have now lost seven of their last nine league matches.
Brighter news for Alton Town who, after conceding six goals against Amesbury on Saturday, bounced back with a 3-1 win against arch rivals Liss Athletic on Monday.
A fine hat-trick from Robbie Stewart helped Hammer United to a 4-3 win over Ripley in an eventful Surrey Intermediate Div. III fixture.
Golf - Kerry Knowles of Farnham, twice a beaten finalist, won the Surrey Ladies Golf Championship at St George's Hill.
Athletics – Vince Crowley (3hrs 09-25) was Farnham Runners' fastest entrant in the London Marathon.
MOTOR RACING - James Kaye of Alton has extended his lead in the British Touring Car Championship class B after the latest round at Donington Park.
Cricket - The I'Anson Cup Competition swings into action this Saturday, with Chiddingfold opening their title defence at Cranleigh St Andrews.
TABLE TENNIS - Bourne are celebrating promotion after winning Division Four of the Aldershot League.
