SQUIRE’S garden centres in Badshot Lea and Frensham have donated more than 26,000 tulip bulbs to brighten up the surrounding area next spring.
The Badshot Lea centre has donated 16,000 tulip bulbs to Waverley Borough Council to plant at Badshot Lea Pond, while Squire’s in Frensham has gifted a further 10,100 bulbs to Frensham Parish Council to be planted around the village.
These donations were made possible by Squire’s ‘Love Where You Live’ campaign, in which the garden centre pledged to donate 10 bulbs for every bag of bulbs that customers bought in September.
The campaign has been such a phenomenal success that Squire’s are donating 230,000 bulbs to parks, green spaces, schools, hospitals and charities across the South East.
Squire’s team members, together with Farnham mayor David Attfield, the Farnham Ranger, Badshot Lea Bloomers and children from Badshot Lea Infant School planted the bulbs around Badshot Lea Pond on October 19.
And on October 22, the Squire’s team joined representatives from Frensham Parish Council and volunteers to plant more bulbs at the entrance to Hollowdene recreation ground, around the Millennium seat area in Shortfield Common, and in the garden near Frensham village shop.Bulbs will also be planted around signposts and at the war memorial over the coming weeks.
Sarah Squire, deputy chairman of Squire’s said: “We have been overwhelmed by the response to our Love Where You Live campaign, and we are grateful for the support our family business receives from local people. It’s fantastic to be able to give something back to the community.”
Kate Shipton, of Frensham Parish Council, said: “The parish council, and in turn the community, wishes to thank Squire’s for the generous donation of the bulbs. The areas chosen should give up an enjoyable display, with possibly a little scented aroma too. We were pleased to have the invaluable help in planting from members of the staff at Squire’s, thank you.”
Mr Attfield added: “Visitors to Badshot Lea Pond will be in for a real treat next spring. Come March and April, when the tulips are at their best, the area around the pond will be a spectacular sight and will bring great pleasure to many.”
