THE internet has become second nature to most people but there are still many who have successfully managed to avoid computers let alone the online world – Farnham ASSIST is inviting those aged 60 and over to step into another world by trying out one of their computer tuition sessions.
The sessions are perfect for those who have been given a laptop, iPad or tablet and want to know how to use it, or for those who want more advanced help rather than just the basics.
The sessions are run weekly and are open to anyone over the age of 60, Farnham ASSIST are calling on anyone interested in learning how to use a computer whether to shop, book tickets or to edit a photograph, to watching TV and keeping in touch with the family – especially those who have moved abroad.
Deputy manager Kirsty Bruton has been working alongside Farnham ASSIST for eight years, she said: “You and I take these things for granted, our generation has grew up with technology all around us and we have seen a lot of change.
“I mean the first computer was the size of a room. It is so easy to connect with people online, with friends and family and with those in the army.
“We’ve had people in tears, as they were able to see an old photograph which they hadn’t seen in 50 years. It is a whole new world for them, and can open so many new doors.
“The classes help over come isolation especially at the weekends, we have this one gentleman who looks forward to coming to the classes and he does his ‘homework’ and prepares for his lesson – the weekend can be a very lonely time for some people.”
The one-on-one tuition sessions, held on Wednesday mornings are 45 minutes long, and all that is required is a small donation of £4.50. For more information or to book a place call Farnham ASSIST on 01252 717710.
