ASDA representatives said this week they were "extremely disappointed" after district council officers recommended that decision-making councillors refuse planning permission for a store in Whitehill and Bordon.

ASDA first expressed interest last year in building an "eco store" at Viking Park, when it commissioned a number of consultations which it argued proved the need for another supermarket in the town.

But this week an ASDA spokesman said the company was "surprised" that East Hampshire District Council had recommended that its planning committee reject the proposal.
