Petersfield could not have had a better start to this game. John Phillips intercepted a pass and released Dean Tutt who drew the 'keeper before dinking the ball over him into the goal
The students were slow out of the blocks and Petersfield went two goals up when the 'keeper failed to clear a Nick Budden short corner, Simon Howard-Harwood scoring on the follow-up.
At this point, University began to make better use of their pacy forwards and a quickly-taken free hit undid the Petersfield defence who were slow to react and an unsighted Paul Martin was beaten between the posts.
This goal seemed to lift the students and a switched short corner was swept into the net, making it 2-2.
Petersfield were finding it increasingly difficult to get the ball out of their half and the home side took the lead when too many tackles were missed and their left-winger scored from a narrow angle.
Petersfield always struggled to adapt to the bouncy water-based surface and University continued to hold the upper hand, moving into a 5-2 lead. Then Petersfield lost Trevor Hillman to the sin-bin after he had conceded a penalty stroke. Martin saved this with ease.
Petersfield, to their credit, mounted a fight-back and substitute Chris Menzies linked up nicely with Dean Tutt before Phillips blasted the ball home. But Petersfield then conceded another goal before Phillips was yellow-carded.
