TED’S Garden Open Day is on track to raise more than £830 for St Mary’s Church, Chiddingfold, and Macmillan Cancer Support Midhurst.
Last Sunday was the fifth year running 84-year-old Chiddingfold resident Tedd Hobbs, secretary and temporary chairman of Liphook Modellers has opened his garden to the public, complete with his impressive 450ft model railway track.
Fellow club members exhibited models, including 11-year-old Jericho, their youngest member, and Hurley 0 Gauge Model Railway Club made sure Ted’s trains ran on time.
“It was a fantastic day,” he said. “I was so lucky with the weather.
“The kids absolutely loved the model railway, I’ve never seen so many children. People were coming up to me and shaking my hand and saying they would see me next year.
“Our Chiddingfold rector Sarah Brough was so good to us when my late wife Joyce was ill with cancer.
“She came in every day to see us. Both the church and Macmillan helped me an awful lot. It’s good to be able to put something back.”
