ALDERSHOT'S dazzling start to their first ever Conference season continued with a third straight win on Saturday.
This time, they eclipsed highly-rated Telford on their own New Bucks Head ground.
The omens were hardly good for Aldershot who only arrived at the ground at 2 pm after getting stuck in traffic, and then conceded a goal in just five minutes.
However, the visitors hung on, grabbed a vital equaliser right on half-time, and then ruthlessly punished some inept defending by Telford as they ran riot with four further goals.
"We started poorly and could have been two down," admitted manager Terry Brown. "The equaliser was a bonus, but I always thought we had more legs in midfield and that proved to be the case in the second half when our forwards were able to create havoc. From a manager's point of view, their defending was catastrophic, but we still showed a lot of character."
Former Wrexham player Scott Green gave Telford an early lead when he headed home strongly from a Lee Williams' cross.
And with Aldershot looking ill at ease after their stressful journey, John Grant and Lee Mills missed golden chances to put the game out of sight in the first period.
Telford were made to pay as the half went into injury time. Aaron McClean stole in undetected to convert a Jon Challinor corner at the near post.
Aldershot never looked back after that and, after a sparkling start to the second half, deservedly took the lead on the hour.
A Nick Roddis cross was touched on by Tim Sills and Challinor gave Chris MacKenzie no chance with a sweet volley.
Three minutes later, Sills again showed his clinical finishing skills when he picked up a through-ball, rode Neil Howarth's challenge and drove home a low shot from the edge of the area.
Telford effectively committed hari-kari as Aldershot surged forward again.
Lee Mills' disastrous attempt at a back pass merely teed the ball up for Fiston Manuella to accept a gift goal: 4-1.
Then, with six minutes left, Scott Eustace's weak back-header again left MacKenzie stranded and McClean intercepted to crack home his second goal of the game.
Telford's defensive nightmare continued and only a marginal offside denied McClean a hat-trick before Grant managed a late second goal for the home side.
