A HOOK businesswoman has won the award for Best Online Business at the Best Business Women Awards 2016.

Stella James and her business Gooseberry Planet, which uses gaming technology to help children learn about internet safety, was presented with the award at a gala held at Tewin Bury Farm, Welwyn.

Targeting four to 16 year olds, Gooseberry Planet uses ‘gamification’ to teach youngsters about online safety.

In an example of one of the games in the programme, children are exposed to online issues requiring a response such as meeting strangers, bullying, grooming and sexual exploitation.

The website adds that “children love playing games and GP is a fun way to present internet safety situations to them”.

Debbie Gilbert, organiser of The Best Business Women Awards said: “We were delighted with the number of entries this year, which came in from all over the UK. This is a tough competition judged by business experts.

“To win is a major achievement.”

Stella, who was over the moon to receive the award, added: “I am chuffed to bits to receive this award. It is a great feeling to get some recognition for working really hard and I hope it will inspire other women to follow their dreams and keep fighting through.”

Judges also weighed in with glowing comments about the Hook business. “Working with parents and schools to keep children safe online is of the utmost importance in today’s society.

“Stella has developed this site which clearly supports this aim and her growth and knowledge impressive.”
