Class of 2025 - dismissed! Now it’s time for celebration with 77 per cent of A-Level students at Farnham College making the grade on a day of emotion and relief.

Members of this year’s cohort are heading to 22 universities, with the Russell Group quartet of Exeter, Liverpool, Cardiff and UCL all welcoming students from Farnham.

The college’s star student is Eva Pyle, who is off to study Psychology at the University of Bath thanks to an A* in Sociology and As in Photography and Psychology.

But her results are even more impressive given that she had few GCSEs because of a period of illness.

She transferred to Farnham from another college, travelling every day from Guildford to do so, but it was worth it. She said: “I loved the environment here which is very welcoming, and I liked the fact that it is small.

“It’s been amazing here, I’ve loved every moment.

“Obviously it has been very stressful especially in the second year but I found the environment so amazing, all of the teachers lovely. I couldn’t recommend it more, honestly.

“And a big shout out to my tutor Rupert who really believed in me and I don’t think I would have done as well as I did without his support and confidence in me. The Learning Support team have also been incredible with their help and support.”

Eva is hoping for a career as a clinical psychologist.

Fabian Burski Farnham College
Fabian Burski is off to UCL thanks to an A* in History, an A in English Literature and C in Psychology (Farnham College)

She added: “I had my own struggles with mental health and I would like to give back to the NHS by working to support people with their mental health.

“I think since Covid a lot of young people have struggled. It’s a long pathway; as well as the degree you need a lot of work experience, then usually a masters degree and then a PhD.”

Fabian Burski also achieved a A* in History, along with an A in English Literature and C in Psychology. The student from Aldershot is off to UCL to study English Literature before taking a Law conversion course.

Fabian said: “I loved Farnham College, it is a peaceful and calm environment with good learning facilities which really helped me study.”

Students travel to Farnham College from across the area, coming from as far as Leatherhead and Woking, and among those celebrating were Sophia Hammet (Illustration, Kingston School of Art); Poppy Rance (Law, Cardiff University); Madiha Hussain (English Literature, Royal Holloway); Jack Davey (History, University of Aberdeen); and Bryn Williams (Politics, University of Aberystwyth).

Iain Cherrington, the college’s curriculum manager, said: “It’s a real celebration day today with some fantastic results from our students.”

“A number of our subjects have 100 per cent pass rates, some of them for the third consecutive year in areas like Geography, History and Photography.

“In Law there was a 100 per cent pass rate and up four per cent on last year’s national average. We are really proud of our students’ efforts and wish them all the best for the future.”
