STUCK for something to do this weekend? Check out our list of the top ten events for all ages within a short journey of Farnham!

1) Tea dance with new adventures at Farnham Maltings (Friday, January 26 3.00pm-5.30pm). If you love cake, dancing and Matthew Bourne then look no further for the perfect afternoon activity. For just £4, New Adventures will be teaching some authentic dance styles from World War Two. Strictly Come Dancing’s Jenny Thomas will be leading the Tea Dance and the event is open to everyone. Ticket prices include tea, coffee, scones and cakes.

2) FAOS: Spamalot at Farnham Maltings (7.30pm-10.30pm). Keep the whole family laughing this weekend with the comedy, Spamalot. Ripped off from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, you can join the characters on a mission from God to find the Holy Grail. It features taunting Frenchmen, the Knights Who Say ‘Ni’, a Killer Rabbit and the ferocious Black Knight. You’ll also be stuck whistling “Always look on the bright side of life” for weeks after! It’s definitely not a show to be missed! Friday/Saturday tickets: £16/£10 students & under 16s. Pre-show dining + tickets £24.50/£18.50 (meal: King Arthur’s Round Table d’Hote: a traditional medieval roast chicken dinner). Group bookings of 10 or more receive £1 off each ticket.

3) Vintage Fashion Fair at Farnham Maltings (Saturday, January 27 10.00am-4.00pm). Spend your Saturday admiring beautiful stalls and purchasing vintage clothing, shoes, handbags, hats, jewellery and textiles. Everything you’ll see is authentically vintage and dates from 1900’s to 1980’s. On offer will be designer labels and wearable vintage at affordable prices, so there really is something for everyone. Pay £2 on the door, free entry for under 16s.

4) A Real Alien Adventure at Farnham Maltings (Saturday, January 27 2.30pm-3.20pm). This rip-roaring, intergalactic space adventure follows Miss Amelia Buttersnap go on a mission to prove that aliens really do exist. Off she goes in her home-made rocket on her very exciting space journey, but she’ll face many questions like are the aliens friend or foe, will she save the planet from alien destruction and most importantly… how do you drink a cup of tea in space? With magic tricks leaving you guessing and beautiful shadow puppetry, it’s an afternoon that will inspire the whole family’s imagination. Tickets: £8 (reduced to £7 if booked simultaneously with another £8 children’s theatre show).

5) Butterflies in the Glasshouse. Butterflies in The Glasshouse is an unforgettable tropical retreat for your whole family. This event, sponsored by McCarthy & Stone, allows you to seek out over 50 exotic species of butterfly as they fly freely through the Glasshouse Tropical Zone. The butterflies will showcase themselves amongst lush plantings, such as palm trees, bananas and thriving aquatic plants. These guests will remain at RHS Wisley until March 4 and to save 10 per cent on ticket prices, book in advance. Ticket prices: Members go in free plus a family guest. Non-members: Normal garden admission.

6) Music in the Vineyard (Sunday, January 28 3.00pm-5.00pm). Enjoy live music at the Farnham Vineyard Centre by the popular local band “Out of the Shadows”. They’ll be re-creating classic instrumentals and vocal sounds from the Sixties, which is sure to get everyone singing and dancing. Farnham ASSIST will be hosting a charity tea stand, so you’ll also be able to enjoy a delicious homemade cake.

7) The Vyne rooftop walkway (last entry 2.30pm). With only a few weeks left, make the most of being able to investigate this major project. The whole family can ascend the scaffolding so that they can see the work as it nears completion. In 1535, The Vyne was frequently visited by Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn so take this opportunity to see conservation in action and admire the views from the walkway. As well as seeing an insider’s view of the projects, you can see the wetlands and parkland before the end of this £5.4 million roof project. To top it off, this is all included in the admission price and is wheelchair/buggy accessible. Coin-drop - Whilst on the rooftop walkway, you can drop coins down a special chute and listen to the cymbals clang as you donation hits the bottom. Last chance to ‘Tag-a-Tile’ – You can even leave your mark on the Vyne by tagging a handmade roof tile (suggested donation of £5).

8) Farmers Market (Sunday, January 28 10.00am-1.00pm). At a Farmers’ Market, all the products have been grown, reared, caught, brewed, pickled or baked by the stall-holder, meaning everything is local and seasonal produce. The stall-holders take great pride in the food they bring to the market for you to enjoy. They especially emphasise the products freshness, quality and value for money. You’ll find an array of local produce, including fresh meat, honey, homemade speciality breads, fresh cakes and plants, to name just a few. A Farnham charity will also be running the tea tent, so you can head there to warm up with a cup of tea and slice of homemade cake.

9) Grayshott Folk Club presents: A Barn Dance with The Hog’s Back Band at Grayshott Village Hall (Saturday, January 27 7.30pm - 10.30pm). Dance away those winter blues at this fun barn dance, where everyone is welcome. You don’t have to worry if you’ve never been to a barn dance before, Lisa Purkiss will be there making it simple and leading the way. Get all the generations in your family dancing and singing along to Farnham’s Hog’s Back Band this Saturday. Tickets: Adults £12/Under 16s £6. 10) 2018 Alice Holt Buggy Running Series Sunday, January 28: This Buggy Running Event is definitely a way for everyone in the family to get active together. It gets children outside whilst parents keep fit and what better place to do it than family friendly forests. This versatile event allows people to walk, jog or run with a pushchair or a wheelchair as the off-road courses are carefully designed and traffic-free. You can choose from two courses, either 3.4 miles or 6.8 miles - don’t worry about deciding now, you can see how you feel on the day. But, there’s more to do at Alice Holt than just a Buggy Running Event; there are adventure playgrounds and a café.
