ALTON'S Initiative Management group (AIM) is now in a position to appoint a town manager and is looking for somebody who would fit the bill.
According to Mike Gibbs - head of economic development and tourism for East Hampshire District Council - Alton's town manager will be a self-motivated and highly organised person with a combination of marketing, planning and organisational skills, together with well developed abilities in communication and the management of interpersonal relationships.
"The role will be to improve the Alton town experience for all, encouraging business, visitor and tourism spend and the commercial attraction of Alton by effective and skilled management with local partners," he said.
Previous related experience, together with an ability to develop a good understanding of the needs of small country towns, is also desirable according to Mr Gibbs.
"Energy, enthusiasm and perseverance will be necessary to achieve the partnership's aims and you should be able to work largely unsupervised."
The appointment will be made initially for two years and, while terms of appointment are said to be "negotiable" it will be for an average of 18 hours per week and will pay in the range of £10,000 to £11,000 a year.
