THE SQUARE is up for hire by community groups after a special deal between PetersfieldÕs town manager and East Hampshire District Council.
Tonw Manager Steve Johnston has been given a licence to hire out the district council-owned Square for community-based and other promotional events.
Mr Johnston told The Herald: ÒThe Petersfield Market Town Initiative met with EHDCÕs property services manager Chris Fairhead and told him we believed that the Square was severely under-used.Ó
Now the town manager is offering it to local groups as well as commerical enterprises in a bid to get more people into the town.
ÒThis is a big area in the middle of the town and it is hardly ever used. It is my job to try and get it used more and we are very grateful to the district council for giving us this chance to broaden the use of this part of the town,Ó said Mr Johnston.
It is available every day except Wednesdays and Saturdays, when the townÕs market is held. The Square will not be available on dates when it is booked by the farmersÕ market.
There will be a scale of charges which will vary according to the type of event being held.
Anyone who is interested in using the Square should contact Mr Johnston on 07798 737134.
