A SAD farewell to a popular head teacher marked the end of term at Crondall primary school.

Karen Walker, head for six years, received thanks and a presentation on the last day of term, from staff, governors and pupils.

Since she became head teacher, the school has almost doubled its numbers, new classrooms have been built and academic standards raised.

Paying tribute to her hard work, Karen Cull, head of the school governors, congratulated Karen Walker on leading many developments and establishing such vibrant school‚.

Mrs. Walker said that her headship had been a great pleasure and a privilege.

"I leave with very mixed feelings of regret and excitement and would like to thank all who make up the wonderful community of Crondall, staff, governors, parents and children, for making my years here so memorable."

Mrs. Walker is to take up a new job with the Hampshire Inspection and Advisory Team, working alongside 25 of the county's schools.

A new head teacher for Crondall will be appointed to start in the summer term of 2002.
