WHITEHILL traffic police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal accident on the A339 on New YearÕs Eve, in which two people died.

The head-on collision, involving a Vauxhall Omega and a Daimler Sovereign, happened on the A339 at the Lasham crossroads just before midday on Tuesday last week. The driver and passenger of the Vauxhall Omega both died at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was Jeffrey Allen Brown, 54, of Carbonel Close in Basingstoke, and the passenger was Malcolm Little, 34, of Elm Road, Sherborne St John. Post mortems were carried out on both men on Thursday last week, the results of which will be made public at an inquest on March 20.

The driver and the passenger of the Daimler Sovereign were taken by ambulance to the North Hampshire Hospital at Basingstoke. The driver was seriously injured and the passenger suffered slight injuries.

A third car, a Volvo containing two adults and three children, was also involved in the collision but none of the occupants were injured.

Diversions were put in the place shortly after the incident but the road was reopened just after 4 pm.

Police are urging the driver of a red vehicle which used the crossroads just prior to the collision to contact them. The motorist may be able to provide vital information, but is not believed to have be involved in the incident.
