THE 10th unravel knitting festival attracted a record-breaking attendance with the Farnham Maltings welcoming more than 3,500 visitors over the three days.

This was its most expansive programme to date and after months of planning and organising, it whizzed by in a whirlwind of woolly delights.

This year’s marketplace took over the whole building and featured leading exhibitors from the UK and Europe featuring and selling yarn and related products.

Workshop leaders included the internationally-renowned designer Hanna Maciejewska  and leading knit protagonist Anna Maltz.

The free talk programme offered fascinating insights into the different realms of the yarn world, including Zoe Fletcher’s fascinating designing for breed lecture and Alison Ellen who received a standing ovation for her talk on traditions in knitting.

Festival director Gemma Curtis said: “It’s an achievement for unravel to celebrate its 10th year with such a successful event.

“How lovely to welcome the visitors, exhibitors, expert speakers and tutors to Farnham.

“Everyone involved contributed to the buzzing atmosphere and I hope that it continues to be a flagship yarn festival for many years to come.”

Gavin Stride is the Maltings director and said: “Unravel is my favourite event.

“It feels like the team have managed to create something that is both local and national with coaches coming from every corner of the country and we know that the unravel festival is spoken about with huge affection by people from around the world.”

Continuing on the festival theme, the craft team at the Farnham Maltings will host textile festival ‘thread’ on Saturday, June 30, which is a new date for this flagship event.
