AN Elstead woman has spoken of her sadness that pubs and a shop in the village closed last Tuesday on the day of a large gypsy funeral.
An estimated 300 people attended the funeral at St James' Church of Henry Matthews, 76, a Romany gypsy who had lived in Elstead for 31 years and worked there as a landscaper.
And a close member of Henry Matthews' family has taken issue with the closure of Elstead's pubs on the day, blaming the police who, she claimed, had told the licensees to stay closed.
