CARE Farnham, a network of volunteers supporting those who cannot get out and about independently by providing transport to the doctor, hospital, dentist and other health-related appointments, is urgently seeking new helpers.
An open morning will take place on September 19 at the council offices in South Street, offering those interested in volunteering the chance to join existing drivers and duty officers for a coffee and a chat.
CARE Farnham began in 1986 when an elderly couple found themselves facing a sudden personal crisis, and kind and caring neighbours stepped forward to give urgent assistance, transporting them to hospital.
At this point those same neighbours realised that there was an acute need for a service of this kind and thus CARE Farnham as a registered charity was born.
Demand for the charity’s services is ever increasing, however, and it is in need of both drivers and duty officers.
Drivers choose when they would like to give their help and are paid a generous mileage allowance.
Duty officers organise transport for clients and can also choose when they want to give their help.
