CANON Andrew White - the celebrated Vicar of Bagdad – will be the keynote speaker at Churches Together in Farnham’s united service for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity on Sunday, January 24. The service, to be held at St Joan of Arc church Tilford Road, starts at 3pm and will be followed by refreshments.

While Canon White was vicar of St George’s in Baghdad, many members of his congregation were killed and he himself was under constant threat of death or kidnap. He nevertheless continued to work tirelessly with leaders of all faiths towards reconciliation.

Since, in late 2014, the Archbishop of Canterbury ordered him to leave Iraq because of the increasing security risk, Canon White has carried on his remarkable ministry of conflict mediation and help for the victims of war and terrorism, through the Foundation for Relief and Reconciliation in the Middle East, the charity he founded.
