THE Lindford Village 30 scheme could be in place by July, following a decision by Hampshire County Council to bring the project forward. It was announced last week that the speed limit through the village would not be reduced until September. But following requests by residents and councillors, and with the agreement of the county council's executive member for the environment Mel Kendal, it is hoped that the new 30mph speed limit could be implemented by July. A spokesman from Hampshire County Council said: "An operational date during July is currently being arranged, provided our contractor can undertake the necessary signing and lining work by then." Adam Carew, county councillor for Lindford, said: "This is fantastic news.  "To our astonishment, we had been told the Village 30 scheme was to be delayed until September for publicity reasons, so a number of Village 30s could be launched together across Hampshire. "As the Traffic Regulation Order had been approved in April, I put in a formal request that the Village 30 be implemented as soon as possible on safety grounds. "I am delighted that the county council has finally seen sense, and it can now be implemented by the end of July instead of having to wait until September. "Let's hope that other villages in Hampshire are able to do the same."
