THE future of Newton Valence has been laid out in a plan that looks to secure the best of the village and identify what can be improved.

The plan was finalised last month, with around 80 villagers turning out for the launch event in the Long Barn on Shotters Lane, Newton Valence.

Bob Fewings, chairman of the village plan team, presented the key findings and co-hosted a question-and-answer session with Gill Pendlebury, chairman of the parish council. All residents were given a printed copy of the plan to take away.

East Hampshire district councillor for the area Charles Louisson gave the group £500 toward their printing costs to ensure everyone had a chance to see the plan.

Mr Louisson said: “The village plan describes the village and its character, what’s good about Newton Valence and what local people would like to see improved.

“The volunteers behind the plan have put in a lot of work to see it through and I was delighted to be able to donate £500 from my councillor grant to help them print and distribute a really high quality plan.”

Mr Fewings said copies of the plan, called Vision 2030, will be distributed to every household.

It looked at a broad range of issues, including conservation, business, community activities, transport and development.

“We are trying to get people to look ahead and see how the village will evolve over time,” said Mr Fewings.

“The plan will also help to strengthen the influence the village has over local developments and identify what parts of the village could be improved.”

Each district councillor receives £4,500 which they can use to support local groups or projects run for the benefit of the wider community.
