GRAYSHOTT villagers have been rewarded for the special contribution they have made to village life, with the annual presentation of awards.
The awards are in recognition of individuals or organisations that have made a difference to the on-going visual improvements in the village which have further enhanced Grayshott and its community.
The Grayshott Society’s eighth annual awards ceremony was held in the restaurant of Grayshott Pottery following its 2017 annual meeting with the presentation of specially inscribed ceramic plates made and generously donated by the pottery.
Making the three presentations Lady Haddon-Cave, the chairman of Grayshott Society said that it had considered all nomination put forward by its members and committee and thanked Grayshott Pottery for once again making and generously donating the personally inscribed ceramic award plates. and for the use of their premises for the special evening.
Presenting the first of the three 2017 awards to Alex Bennett and Paul Armstrong from Homes Estate Agents, Lady Haddon-Cave said it was for their excellent sympathetic renovation of the old pharmacy.
She said: “It is one of the most attractive original shop fronts in the village and they have managed to enhance and modernise it while protecting the style of the old shop.”
The second plate went to John Childs for his ‘wonderful local history walks and the booklet’ he has written and other contributions to the village environment.
“The walks have inspired so many and given us insights into the wonderful varied history of our little village.”
The final award plate was presented to Julia Tarento with Peter Knifton receiving the award on her behalf.
“Julia was the force behind the Boundary Road team who had to deal with the most complicated and convoluted negotiations and raising the finance to get a hard wearing smooth surface to the Grayshott Surgery which can now be enjoyed and appreciated by all.
“These awards were set up to be given to those whose work enhances and improves the village and all the 2017 winners achieved this,” said Lady Haddon-Cave.
