PUPILS at St Peter’s School enjoyed learning some essential life saving skills, as the school once again held its annual CPR Day.
Volunteers from the South East Coast Ambulance Service and Heartstart Farnham Lions spoke to the children about what to do in an emergency, and demonstrated some simple skills that can save a life.
Year five learnt what action to take in an emergency and the importance of maintaining a casualty’s airway, which included learning the recovery position.
Year six recapped on what they learnt last year and went on to learn how to perform CPR and about the function and importance of defibrillators.
“The children were amazing and so quickly became confident and competent,” commented Jo Michaelides from Heartstart Farnham Lions.
“Many of these incidents happen at home, so it’s important to empower young people with the skills and knowledge to take action.”
St Peter’s also held a collection for the British Heart Foundation, which was well supported by parents and teachers in the playground.
Headteacher Sarah Dunning concluded: “We are so happy to hold this important annual event. The children made us very proud with the care and attention they paid to their training.
