EAST Hampshire District Council has warned residents to be vigilant after cold callers have falsely claimed to be from the council.
Firstly, they have asked for personal details, such as names, addresses, dates of birth and bank details. Often the line has been poor, the caller ID blocked, and from an 020 number.
In the second scam, they told residents they have overpaid their council tax and ask for their bank details and £65 to refund the money. EHDC said it would never ask residents for a fee to refund any council tax owed. If you are concerned, call the district council on 01730 266551.
