WAVERLEY is looking for three bright, young people aged 16 to 24 to join their scheme, which offers a two-year placement with the council and an NVQ in Business Administration or Customer Service.

The current vacancies are for the leisure, communications and environmental services teams. The scheme is designed to help young people kick start their working careers and has already helped 27 young people get invaluable work experience to get their working lives unde rway in the last five years.

Over 75 per cent of Waverley’s apprentices have gone on to secure full-time jobs either at Waverley or elsewhere. The council is committed to supporting young people’s development and providing opportunities for them to flourish in the workplace. Apprentices are helped by Waverley Training Services to gain their NVQ qualification and are supported by their line manager.

They will be paired with their own ’buddy’ to support them and will benefit from the advice and support of existing apprentices. Current housing services apprentice Matthew Fowler said: “Since I started the scheme I have learnt so much and now I feel much better placed to get a job. Everybody here is friendly and is willing to help when I have a question to ask. I have grown so much in confidence and I think taking on this apprenticeship has been a great way to launch my career.”
