Wrecclesham Tennis Club's annual Knockout Tournament is played out over two months and culminated in Finals Day on Sunday.

The weather was relatively kind and all the matches were completed, with just a short break for rain. A high standard of tennis was seen in all events, reflecting the strength in depth at the club.

The highlights of the tournament are the men's and ladies' singles finals.

Two newcomers competed in the men's – Stuart McCabe and Daniel Fitzharris, with McCabe winning in two sets 6-3, 6-1. He has shown great improvement during the past year and it was a well-deserved success. Fitzharris is the club's most promising young player who has just come through the junior coaching scheme and will be a force to be reckoned with over the coming years.

The ladies' final was a hard-fought affair between Kathy Norkett and Carol Austin. Kathy won in two sets 6-1, 7-5.

Men's vets doubles – Chris Everett & Alan Stone beat John Dymott & Paul Townson 6-1, 6-4. Ladies' vets doubles – Diane Pettit & Linda Taylor beat Margot Rowdon & Barbara Goodall 6-2, 7-5. Mixed vets doubles – Margot Rowdon & Chris Everett beat Chris Wheeler & Maralyn Sharpe 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.

l Wrecclesham Tennis Club prides themselves on being a welcoming club, encouraging all levels of tennis. They have four courts, three of which are floodlit, and regular club sessions are held on Wednesdays and Sundays.

In addition to the premier club tournament, Wrecclesham hold five American tournaments throughout the year, plus other handicap events. There is an active junior section, with coaching on Saturdays during the summer. The club enter several men's, ladies, mixed and junior teams in the Aldershot and District League.

Anyone wishing to play tennis at Wrecclesham can attend one of the club sessions from 6-30 pm on Wednesdays or from 2-30 pm on Sundays. The club is situated behind the Riverdale Estate at Wrecclesham Rec.
