YOUNG bookworms raised £265 for Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice over the summer by reading non-stop for 10 minutes for every year of their age.

The children of staff of home care company Right at Home GF were sponsored by family and friends to sit quietly for between one hour and one hour 40 mins, depending on their age, and read their favourite books.

For lively young children, this is a big ask, but they all successfully completed the challenge and some of them visited the hospice to present the cheque.

“This is the second year that we have held a children’s readathon and we plan to make it an annual event,” said Alastair Shanks, MD, Right at Home GF.

“The children are really enthusiastic about doing something to support a local charity and were proud to hand over the money themselves. I think it’s a great way for young children to learn how they can make a difference to people in their local community.”
