A GROUP of pupils from All Saints School in Tilford have spent the spring term acquiring basic skills in the Korean martial art of Tae Kwon Do.

The skills have been picked up in an after-school club run by Tim Ayres-Townshend, head instructor at Farnham School of Tae Kwon Do.

As well as teaching the boys, aged five to seven, some of the fundamental techniques, the classes have focused on physical fitness and encouraging the boys to embrace the tenets of Tae Kwon Do - courtesy, integrity, perseverance, indomitable spirit and self-control - not only in the Tae Kwon Do classes, but also in school and at home.

After one particular session, where the boys enjoyed the opportunity of training with Evie Ayres-Townshend, the under-18s black belt English champion, All Saints' headteacher Julie Campbell said: "We are delighted that Tim is able to run a Tae Kwon Do club at our school. The children have really benefited from the tenets of Tae Kwon Do such as perseverance and self-control.

"I am amazed at how much they have learnt in just a few weeks and hope that we may have a future champion in the making."
