EAST Hampshire runner Elizabeth Rose fended off the challenge of more than 100 fellow racers to clinch a podium finish in the Bupa Junior Great South Run.

Elizabeth, 14, from Whitehill, was running in Southsea, on Saturday, October 25, for the City of Portsmouth Athletic Club and came in third place, with a time of eight minutes and 51 seconds.

The one-and-a-half-mile course saw 125 girls, aged 12 to 15, compete.

Other members of the Rose family completed the 10-mile race the following day. Elizabeth's father, Dr John Rose, finished in 1:06.29, Samantha in 1:11.12, Emily in 1:07.57 and mother Sue in 1:42.33.

In 2012, Elizabeth was one of the 212 British 12 year olds to carry the Olympic Torch, running in Petersfield with the flame.
