EMELIA Gorecka finished second in the senior women’s race at the Edinburgh Cross Country International on Saturday.
The Aldershot, Farnham & District runner split the pack that had been chasing Yasemin Can of Turkey and reached the finish two seconds after the Kenyan-born European champion.
Can recorded 20mins 58 for the 6km course, with Gorecka stopping the clock at 21 minutes dead.
AFD clubmate Katie Bingle, 17th in 21-56, closed the British team that placed second to Europe, but ahead of the USA.
Great Britain won the junior women’s event with a quartet that included another AFD runner, Niamh Brown, who came sixth, clocking 14-22 for the 4km run.
Five of the club’s teams won their races in the latest round of the Hampshire League, also held on Saturday.
AFD’s winning teams were: senior men, U17 men, U15 boys, U13 boys and U15 girls. Second-claimer Abdulqani Sharif (senior men) and Rudi Morrell (U13 boys) led their sides with individual victories.
