CHAWTON Park continued to push for national and county indoor bowls honours last week.

Adam White, the club’s man of the moment, superbly skipped team-mates Mark Fyfield and Dick Holden to a convincing 21-7 win against a Dorchester trio led by Nick Voss, an old adversary who has been a stumbling block for Chawton in recent years. The White trio will take their place in the last 16 of the National triples at Melton Mowbray.

It was a hectic week for the club in county competitions. First up, Adam White, this time with Dave Turner and Dick Holden, won 18-15 at Banister Park to reach the semi-finals of the Hampshire triples.

In the O60s two-wood triples semi-final, Charlie Spear skipped Robert Hutchinson and Dick Holden to a close 16-14 win at Loddon Vale.

Danny Brown travelled to Victory IBC to play Dan Smith in the Hampshire U25 singles. Brown struggled on the fast green and the more experienced Smith won 21-6.

No joy in the County fours, either, for the Chawton rink skipped by John Fensom against a strong Loddon Vale rink led by Trevor Morgan. The Loddon four ran out 23-8 victors.

Margaret Holden, though not at her best, recorded an emphatic 21-4 win over Gwen Viney (Atherley) in the Hampshire ladies singles.

Margaret then linked up with Margaret Leppard and Sue Murray in the County triples and the Chawton trio were always in control against Palmerston, winning 22-13.

Chawton’s most exciting match came in the County mixed pairs semi-finals and featured Dave and Alice Atwell against tough Victory IBC opponents. Going into the last end, the pairs were locked together 15-15, but skip Dave, lying game down, produced the bowl of the match to clinch a 16-15 win and put the Atwells in the semi-finals.

A mixed pairs semi-final also beckons for Lesley and Gary Johnson who dispatched a Palmerston duo 22-15.

The Adam White bandwagon rolled on as he saw off Gary Lovett (Loddon Vale) in the County singles 21-9 and then travelled with Mark Fyfield to East Dorset in the pairs and returned comfortable 24-13 winners.

The ladies’ Riversmeet League team completed their season with a resounding 50-shot win over Five Rivers. Rink results: Brenda Plumpton 33-6; Beryl Collier 26-19; Margaret Holden 21-11; Margaret Leppard 24-18. Overall score: 104-54.
