DURING the most successful Wimbledon ever for British players, two former Wimbledon and Davis Cup players, Danny Sapsford and Luke Milligan, took time out to put on an exhibition match at The Bourne Club.

This annual event for members and guests also raised funds for Bourne Club’s new two-court tennis bubble which opens this autumn to enable winter tennis whatever the weather.

The main event was the exhibition men’s doubles, while spectators also had the chance to take part in a fastest serve competition.

Danny Sapsford represented GB in the Davis Cup from 1990-95 and met Pete Sampras in the third round of Wimbledon in 1999. He is the founder of the charity Bright Ideas for Tennis which raises money to encourage more participation in tennis.

Luke Milligan also reached the third round at Wimbledon, losing to Tim Henman in 1996, and played in the Davis Cup that same year.

Amanda Webster, tennis chair at Bourne Club, said: “The exhibition evening is a big event in our social calendar and we were lucky once again to host two ex-Davis Cup players, provided by Danny Sapsford’s Bright Ideas for Tennis charity.

“The weather was challenging, but we were pleased to raise money for our bubble which will enable us to play tennis, sheltered from the wind and rain, throughout the winter.”
