A Farnham roller hockey team is taking part in a European tournament after only being founded a year ago.

Farnham Roller Hockey Club's under-17 female team are representing the town in the Eurockey International Tournament in Blanes and Lloret de Mar, Spain.

The team were established by the club last season, along with a senior Female Premier League team.

The under-17s joined the Eastern Counties female league, which they won to earn their place at Eurockey.

Eurockey brings together national finalists from across Europe. Teams compete in a group stage before progressing to knockout rounds.

For several Farnham players it will be their first taste of international competition, while others bring experience from playing abroad with UK squads.

“Competing in tournaments like Eurockey gives our players a chance to test themselves against the best in Europe,” said co-coaches Andy French and Scott Wheeler.

“It’s an incredible opportunity and it shows how far the club has come. Just as important, it helps them develop as confident, positive young adults, on the rink and off it.”

Under-17 female coach Lucy Collis added: “While some of our players have experienced Eurohockey previously, representing Farnham on the European stage for the first time is monumental.

“It’s a powerful statement for female roller hockey in our club. Seeing the development of our female teams has been inspiring and it brings hope for the future of women in this sport.

“Our participation in Eurohockey establishes the strength of Farnham’s girls and reflects the hard work they have been putting in.”
