Badshot Lea manager Gavin Smith admitted a draw was a fair result after his side were held to a 1-1 draw at Westfield in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Saturday afternoon.
The home side took the lead in the 56th minute through Jordan Alves’ impressive strike, but the Baggies got themselves back on level terms on 60 minutes when George Hedley headed home from Josh Keeya’s corner.
“I thought a draw was a fair result,” said Smith.
“We had more possession and more pressure, but Westfield created more chances.
“We’re just missing that final bit in the final third. We reacted well to going behind and I’m pleased for George – he has been quite dominant in both boxes this season.
“Westfield are pushing for the play-offs and I’ve watched them blow a couple of teams away this season, but that certainly wasn’t the case on Saturday.
“It’s a good point as we hadn’t played Westfield yet this season and we showed we can compete with them.”
The Baggies have had to deal with a lengthy injury list in recent weeks, although the pressure on the treatment room appears to be easing.
“We’ve got good competition for places now,” said Smith.
“George Frise started on Saturday after his injury, which was good, and Kai Allsopp came off the bench and didn’t have any reaction.”
The Baggies were frustrated by the weather last Tuesday night (February 13) when their Velocity Cup quarter-final at home to Hashtag United was postponed.
Next up for Badshot Lea is a home game against Hanworth Villa in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Saturday (3pm), and Smith is looking forward to it.
“We’ve always had good games against Hanworth Villa,” said Smith.
“We owe them after losing at their place earlier this season.
“We’re in the top ten but we feel we should be a bit closer to the play-offs. We want to have something to play for at the end of the season.
“The results speak for themselves and the teams who are up there deserve to be up there, but I haven’t seen any teams in this league that we need to be fearful of.”
