Badshot Lea manager Gavin Smith felt his side had room for improvement after their 4-1 win at Raynes Park Vale in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Saturday.
The Baggies took an early lead when Kai Allsopp smashed home on nine minutes, but the home side equalised on 18 minutes when Jeremy Nnamani headed home from a corner.
The visitors were quick out of the traps in the second half and regained the lead in the 47th minute when Baback Dehgani curled his effort into the top corner. Raynes Park were then reduced to ten men on 51 minutes when Louie Downey was sent off for dissent.
Smith’s side soon made their numerical advantage count and went 3-1 up in the 57th minute when Anaur Ceesay’s shot found the top corner. Nasim Regragui slotted home on 78 minutes to make it 4-1.
Baggies keeper Harry Cawdron saved a penalty in the 81st minute, and the hosts were reduced to nine men when Brad Sweeney was sent off for a second bookable offence.
The victory means Badshot Lea enjoyed a perfect September – with six wins out of six.
“Raynes Park caused us problems in the first half – so credit to them,” said Smith.
“I felt happy to get in at half-time at 1-1. Getting the second goal just after half-time was obviously key, and when they went down to ten men we then took control of the game.
“Once we got 4-1 up and they went down to nine men we kept the ball well – we must have strung 100 passes together in ten minutes.”
Next up for the Baggies is a home game against Redbridge in the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy at Westfield Lane on Saturday (3pm).
“We’re pleased we’ve got a home tie and it’s good to play against a side that aren’t in our league,” said Smith.
“Redbridge were also promoted to Step 4 like us last season, and have started similarly to us this season, so both sides will see it as a good chance to progress and hopefully get a good tie in the next round.
“The FA Trophy is a good competition as you can earn quite a bit of money from it, which is good for the club.”
