WORCESTER PARK 7, BADSHOT LEA 1
BADSHOT Lea had trounced bottom side Cove 6-2 on Friday, but it was a different story on Tuesday as the Baggies were taken apart by Worcester Park, the runaway Combined Counties Division? One leaders.
However, the visitors had to play most of the match with ten men, Nick Thumwood being sent off soon after putting Badshot Lea in front.
Thumwood was singled out after a melee, the referee adjudging him to have raised his hand, and thereafter it was a stroll for Worcester who have now won 22 out of 26 matches.
The leaders showed their firepower as Johan Burne equalised with a left-foot pearler and then supplied the cross for Harrison Deacon to head them in front.
Early in the second half, another Burke belter made it 3-1 and, almost immediately, Deacon got the fourth.
Deacon completed his hat-trick, an audacious long-range chip from Mark Waters made it 6-1, and finally skipper Gary Knowelden crashed the ball in off the crossbar for the final goal.
Worcester Park look champions-elect, but apparently don’t have the facilities to qualify for the Premier Division. Third-placed Badshot Lea remain in the promotion hunt.
Badshot Lea 6, Cove 2. Nick Thumwood showed his value to the Baggies with a 15-minute hat-trick against Cove at Krooner Park on Friday night.
Lowly Cove shook the host side by taking the lead with a Kai Francis goal after only two minutes.
Josh Francis soon equalised and then a Brad Smith double gave the Baggies a 3-1 lead at half-time.
Cove came back fighting in the second half and Taylor Watts pulled it back to 3-2.
But then came Thumwood’s quick treble – goals in the 60th, 70th and 75th minutes – as Badshot Lea pulled rank on the visitors.
Badshot Lea are away to South Park Reserves this Saturday.
• Farnham’s Premier Division match at CB Hounslow was postponed on Saturday. Town have a tough date at second-placed Sutton Common Rovers this Saturday. On Tuesday, Farnham are home to Colliers Wood.
