CHELSEA U23s kicked off their Premier League International Cup campaign with a 2-1 win over the the renowned Feyenoord Academy at Aldershot’s EBB Stadium on Tuesday.

Chelsea’s young guns warmed up the crowd on a freezing night with two quickfire goals from Dijon Sterling and Fikayo Tomori.

It was a great start for Adi Viveash’s side who were up against the five-time winners of the Rinus Michels Award for the best Academy in Dutch football.

Past graduates of the Feyenoord Academy include Robin van Persie, Bruno Martins Indi, Giorginio Wijnaldum, Jonathan de Guzman, Vincent Janssen and current Feyenoord first-team head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst. The current squad includes one of Dutch football’s hottest young prospects, defender Sven van Beek who has been linked with a move to Southampton and Lazio.

Chelsea U23s meet another of Europe’s top Academies in GNK Dinamo Zagreb from Croatia on Friday, December 16. Their alumni include Luka Modric, Zvonimir Boban, Robert Prosinecki, Dario Simic and Vedran Corluka.

Chelsea complete their International Cup group fixtures against Swansea City on Thursday, December 22.

Admission to these cup matches at the EBB Stadium is free.

In between, Chelsea host Manchester United in a Premier League 2 fixture at Aldershot on Friday, December 9. Chelsea beat Southampton 3-2 on Monday night with a side which featured John Terry, Cesc Fabregas, Michy Batshuayi and Kurt Zouma.

Aldershot are hosting many mouth-watering fixtures for Chelsea’s academy, reserves and youth sides.

Chelsea U18s begin their defence of the FA Youth Cup on Tuesday, December 13 against Cardiff City. Admission is £3 and £1.
