Farnham Town came from behind to start their Surrey Senior Cup defence with a 2-1 win at Leatherhead.

Anas Igozouln gave the hosts the lead in the 11th minute, but late goals from Darryl Sanders and Bobby-Joe Taylor secured the Town’s progress in front of a crowd of 324 at Fetcham Grove.

Leatherhead started the brighter of the two sides, and the Tanners took an early lead on 11 minutes when Nathan Hogan’s cutback picked out Igozouln, whose first-time finish picked out the left-hand corner of the net.

The Town almost got back on level terms in the 25th minute when Taylor’s cross found Ryan Kinnane at the back post, whose header was palmed onto the crossbar by Leatherhead keeper Sonny Wheeler.

Farnham went close again on 40 minutes when Jack Spong found Sanders, who fired an effort goalwards which was parried away by Wheeler.

Farnham boss Paul Johnson made a double change at half-time, with Owen Dean and Mat Mackenzie replacing Sam Hutchinson and Erion Zabeli.

The Town created their best opportunity of the game so far in the 56th minute when Dean cut the ball back to Sam Evans, who dragged his effort wide of the left-hand post.

Johnson made his third substitution of the evening on 61 minutes, with Josh Tobin replacing Spong. Farnham’s manager made another change six minutes later, with Trae Cook-Appiah replacing Evans.

Cook-Appiah nearly made an immediate impact in the 70th minute when his cutback found Sanders, whose shot was blocked on the line by Niran Butler.

The Town continued to press and Taylor tried his luck from 25 yards out three minutes later, but he pulled his left-footed effort wide of the far post.

Farnham had another opportunity on 74 minutes when Tobin found Sanders, whose curling effort was tipped wide by Wheeler.

The Town went close again a minute later when Tobin fed Cook-Appiah, who dragged a shot across goal that Dean couldn’t quite tap into an empty net.

Farnham finally got their leveller in the 84th minute when Cook-Appiah’s delivery found Sanders, who slid in to tap home.

The Town scored a winner a minute later when Taylor took aim from just outside the box and his right-footed effort deflected into the far corner.

Farnham nearly scored a third on 89 minutes when Cook-Appiah broke away, but his shot was kept out by Wheeler.

Sanders almost scored his second of the evening in stoppage time, but his right-footed effort was tipped behind by Wheeler.
