Farnham Town manager Paul Johnson was satisfied after his side started their Surrey Senior Cup defence with a 2-1 win at Leatherhead.
Anas Igozouln gave the hosts the lead in the 11th minute, but late goals from Darryl Sanders and Bobby-Joe Taylor secured the Town’s progress in front of a crowd of 324 at Fetcham Grove.
Johnson was disappointed with his side’s first-half display, but was happy with their second-half performance.
“It was a game of two halves,” said Johnson. “It was a really bad first half from us, and then a second half in which we improved but the finishing was woeful.
“We came out with the handbrake on and Leatherhead had the lion’s share of it and passed it around us. We didn't quite get to grips with it.
“At half-time, we told the players we need to be better and have a bit more enthusiasm about playing the game.
“The rain had come down, so the pitch was nice and slick.”
Johnson was delighted with the impact his substitutes made, as Farnham came from behind to reach the next round.
“A couple of substitutions were forced upon us, but I thought it changed it for us a little bit,” said Johnson.
“Mat Mackenzie was due to come on in midfield, but we had to shuffle it around and put Mat at right-back. Owen Dean came on and it gave us a bit more licence with Bobby and Owen driving forward from deep.
“Trae Cook-Appiah was a game-changer and Leatherhead couldn't handle him. We know what he can do, and he showed what he's all about.
“The finishing was not what we desired in the second half, but the goals were coming.
“Trae got in so many times. There were cutbacks and a couple of blocks on the line and it looked like it was going to be one of those nights where it wasn't going to happen.
“As soon as we got the first one, we could only see ourselves winning.”
