A FIVE-goal blitz in less than 10 minutes saw Petersfield Hurricanes U8s blow away their North East Hampshire Youth League rivals at Love Lane on Saturday.

Having had a fruitful trip to Farnham to play Bourne Blades Badgers three weeks earlier, the Hurricanes gelled as a team to repeat the dose on home soil.

Star of the show was undoubtedly young roving playmaker Harry Timmons, who scored a deserved a hat-trick to double his goal tally for the season, while tireless runner and tenacious tackler Oscar Walker opened his account for the season with two fine strikes, the second a stunning effort from just inside the Badgers’ half.

Walker it was who lit the blue touch paper to set the Hurricanes on their way, thumping the ball into the net from a corner, quickly followed by Timmons who ghosted in from the left before firing in off the far post.

Taylor Pearce almost made it three after racing clear but saw his effort cannon off the post but Timmons made no mistake when he seized on hesitation in the Badgers defence to confidently plant the ball past the goalkeeper.

Then came Walker’s spectacular party piece before Timmons completed his hat-trick at the far post after Pearce’s tricky low shot was spilled by the Badgers goalkeeper.

At the other end, in-form Hurricanes goalkeeper James Port, who seems to be getting better and better every game, made some fine saves, including one bravely with his legs, while determined Benjamin Oru cleared an effort of the line on the rare occasion that Port’s defences were breeched to hep maintain a clean sheet.

Connor Redpath had arguably his best game of the season, deservedly playing the entire 40 minutes after his new-found skills began to shine through, while Alex Garlant, having one of his quieter games, showed no lack of effort as he looked to take the attack to the Badgers at every opportunity.
