TROJANS III 1, HASLEMERE 3

HASLEMERE Ladies remain just one point behind Hampshire Division 1 leaders Winchester after beating fourth-placed Trojans.

Rain was falling at Southampton, but Haslemere adapted better to the conditions and dominated the first 15 minutes.

The pressure was rewarded with a goal. After a perfectly weighted line ball from Abbie Whalen and good passing from Meg Davies and Donna Read, Heidi Wells slotted past the keeper.

But Haslemere stepped off the gas slightly and Trojans converted a short corner to make it 1-1 at half-time.

Haslemere began the second half with short, sharp passing and their solid defence denied Trojans any clear chances.

The visitors regained the lead when Read pounced on a rebound off the goalkeeper and snapped up the second goal.

Continued pressure and excellent interplay throughout the team allowed Haslemere to execute a high press.

Lucy Brownrigg played on after being floored by the keeper and Haslemere’s determination to win was again summed up when Alice Toynton scored the third goal in a goalmouth melee.
