Midfielder Theo Widdrington has signed a new contract with Aldershot Town, writes Samuel Carter, and can expect more stick from his dad!
Theo has made 76 appearances in red and blue since joining the club in the summer of 2023 and has been a key part of their midfield over the last two seasons.
He skippered the Shots on a number of occasions and played the full 90 minutes at Wembley as he helped his side to FA Trophy victory.
Theo said: “I’m really happy to be staying at this fantastic football club. When I heard the club wanted to extend my contract, it was a no-brainer for me to sign. We’ve had a great two seasons so far, with last season topping it off, lifting the Trophy at Wembley!
“Also, thank you to all the fans who have supported me thus far; whether you’ve enjoyed watching me play or not, I hope you appreciate I’ve always given my all for the shirt and always will, going forward, to deliver as much success for this club as possible.
“I’m looking forward to seeing you back at the EBB this season. Up the Shots!”
Tommy Widdrington added: “I’m well aware of the odd comment which suggests Theo is only at the football club because he’s my lad. That honestly couldn’t be further from the truth.
“Theo has played a significant part in almost all of the memorable games we’ve had here at Aldershot over the past couple of seasons. He deserves credit for accepting the criticism he sometimes doesn’t deserve, and gets on with his job like the pro he is.
“Trust me when I tell you, he gets more criticism from me than anyone! However, I’m delighted he’s agreed a new deal and hopefully we can both go forward writing more history for this great football club.”
