THIS hard-fought draw left Haslemere’s New Developers top of Hampshire 10 with equal points, but a two-goal difference advantage over a strong and always sporting and hospitable Romsey side.

Haslemere will have rued their inability to convert chances, in both halves, created by the running and deft passing of Dominic and Alex Knight and James Scan, to name but a few.

But both defences proved resolute and, in turn, Romsey’s counter-attacks were foiled by timely interventions from Vallis, Rodber and Chris Stokes and by Stokes Jnr, Ben Ford and their other excellent colleagues.

Behind them all, skipper Tony Richards was a rock of reliability in goal.

In midfield, Marley and McDonald combined tirelessly with the perception and skilled distribution of Mayson, but, thwarted by Romsey’s admirable marking, their initiatives went unrewarded.

No goals – but a joy to watch two teams who involved seniors and juniors in exemplary fashion.
