THE Frensham Frenzy, sponsored this year by Typhoon Sports Clothing, is a pre-season open event. A two-race pursuit, it is a popular work-out for the more serious stuff ahead.
Conditions were good this year, with the sun shining at last and a moderate to strong north-easterly wind, which always makes for good racing on this water.
Numbers were down on some years, especially with Frensham’s Cadet sailors all away elsewhere. Nevertheless, there were some good close-quarter tussles for the 27 entries and both visitors and locals relished the competition.
All the dinghy classes, particularly those with sail kites, enjoyed exciting legs of the course, putting the four 2.4R keelboats at a distinct disadvantage.
Racing was followed by the famous Frensham free tea and the trophy and prizes were presented by commodore Colin Dutton, with sailing secretary Clive Eplett presiding. Sponsors Typhoon had provided a handsome array of prizes.
The clear winner was Frensham helm Matthew Hill in his Laser. Second and third places were secured by two visiting Lark class crews, Chris Whitehouse and Simon Haighton and Charlie Roome and Emma Hivey, both from Ranelagh SC.
Results: 1st, Matthew Hill (Frensham) Laser; 2nd, Chris Whitehouse & Simon Haighton (Ranelagh) Lark; 3rd, Charlie Roome & Emma Hivey (Ranelagh) Lark; 4th, Katrina Gilbert & Jenny Rust (Frensham) RS200; 5th, Steve Cumley & Eluned Stewart (Netley) Lark; 6th, Ian Gregory (Frensham) RS 100.
