PORTSMOUTH 2, ALDERSHOT TOWN 2

ALDERSHOT earned a money-spinning FA Cup replay, but they will also feel they should have won this pulsating first-round clash at Fratton Park.

The fact that the first competitive Hampshire derby between the sides in 32 years fell on Remembrance Sunday was too good an opportunity to miss, given both two clubs' close connections with the armed forces. Aldershot embraced Portsmouth's initiative to make it a significant occasion.

In a moving ceremony, veteran soldiers and sailors paraded on the ground and the Last Post was sounded during the two-minute silence.

The game matched the occasion, a stirring encounter played at an unrelenting pace. Fittingly for the FA Cup, it was a game of two halves as well, with League Two side Portsmouth dominating the first half, but the Conference underdogs roaring back in the second period and coming within nine minutes of an upset.
